Place Survey

The Place Survey is a survey that all Councils have to carry out every two years.

The Somerset Place Survey was conducted for the first time in 2008. A questionnaire was sent to 17,500 Somerset households between late September 2008 and December 2008. 3,500 surveys were sent to households in each of the 5 district council areas.

The Place Survey provides Councils with a ‘citizen perspective’ about the local area, and asks questions about

  • Safety

  • Health

  • Living environment

  • The local economy

  • Local communities

  • Inequalities

  • Housing needs

  • Family support

  • The well being of children and young people

To carry out the Place Survey in Somerset, a subgroup of SINe formed a Consortium between the following organisations:

  • Somerset County Council

  • Mendip District Council

  • Sedgemoor District Council

  • South Somerset District Council

  • Taunton Deane Borough Council

  • West Somerset Council

  • NHS Somerset

  • Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service

The Consortium appointed BMG (Bostock Marketing Group) to carry out the survey on their behalf.
