There are a wide range of local area data sources freely available to the public and organisations. Here you will find links to web sites where you can access a range of information and statistics about your local area, create profiles, produce summaries and make comparisons with other areas.

The South West Observatory

Through its Theme Modules and a central co-ordinating Core Unit, the South West Observatory conducts and publishes research and statistics for the South West region. Visit www.swo.org.uk

Neighbourhood Statistics

Provided by the Office for National Statistics, the NeSS web site provides a wealth of data collected from national surveys, including the Censuses.  Interactive Neighbourhood Profiles can be produced for Districts, Wards or Super Output Areas. They also publish an Indicator Catalogue of all the statistics they ‘host’ through their site – a total of nearly 4000 - which includes the source, time period and geographic areas it is available for. NOMIS - National Online Manpower Information System

NOMIS is run by the Office for National Statistics and publishes statistics about businesses, employment and the labour market. Interactive Labour Market Profiles can be produced for Local Authority areas or Wards. There is also a User Guide. Visit www.nomisweb.co.uk

Audit Commission

The Audit Commission publishes performance information about public service organisations. Interactive Area Profiles can be produced for Local Authority Areas, which draw data together from all these different public bodies, and can include comparison data with neighbouring Authorities. Visit www.audit-commission.gov.uk
